Leni Robredo: 40 x 4 = 1600????!!!!

 Dahil hindi ako mapakali kahit 2018 pa ata 'to nag-trending at hindi ko binigyan ng ganung attention, dahil una, kasi hindi pa ako ganun ka interested sa politics, at pangalawa, so what if someone incorrectly solved a simple Math problem on national TV? So ang ginawa ko, I tried looking for the longer version of the video. Siyempre, fact-check muna tayo.

I don't know why it's a big deal to everyone when VP Leni said in one of her videos that 40 x 4 = 1600. Sa isip ko, kahit ako after college kinalawang na din naman yung utak ko when I try to mentally solve arithmetic problems, all the more na yung sagot ay lagpas na ng isang-libo. In my college years, I major in Mathematics and sa 25 Math major subjects ko, from Advanced Algebra to Statistics, to Discrete Mathematics, and then to Differential and Integral Calculus, 3 lang ang below 90 ko na grades and 87-89 yung 3 grades ko na yun. But to be honest, after more than a decade of not practicing what I studied for, di na ako ganun ka-confident sa Math skills ko.

Eto na nga. So pinanood ko siya and for the first time, while listening to her, I was also doing mental calculation. And I don't know, maybe, I still got it, that my math prowess is still okay. So unconsciously, this is how my my mind processed it;

10 kilos per week x P40 per kilo x 4 weeks in a month = P1600 budget per family para sa rice.

So, I tried to listen again and that's where I understand why there's a clamor about it. Maybe, (mabye lang ito ha? I'm not trying to question your knowledge and how you process it on your head while doing the calculation), we focused only on the 40 x 4 =1600 na sinabi niya. Or baka yung kumakalat na video ay hindi na sinama yung part na she mentioned about the 10kg per week. But that's not how I processed it. It was like solving worded problems because I was listening and trying to understand the context of her explanation while trying to do the Math at the back of my mind.

Anyways, marami na naman magsasabi na pinagtatanggol ko na naman ang Nanay ko. Char! Pero magkaiba lang siguro tayo ng pag-process ng mga bagay-bagay, lalo na pagdating sa Math. 

Pero what I learned more about this video? Na alam ni VP Leni yung challenge ng bawat pamilya na P1600 ng kanilang kita kada buwan ay doon napupunta. Bakit mahalaga ito? Kasi the best way para alam mo pano ka mas makakatulong sa lipunan ay kung alam mo kung ano ang kanilang pinagdadaanan. When Marcos was asked sa isang pa-games sa isang radio station if magkano ang pamasahe ngayon sa jeep, ang sagot niya ay 4 pesos. Iisipin natin na maliit na bagay lang eto pero sa araw-araw ng isang ordinaryong tao na nagko-commute, isang malaking insulto na iniisip mo ganun lang ka-mura ang pamasahe nila sa araw-araw. It feels like, hindi mo alam at ramdam ang hirap ng bawat Pilipino. Hindi pa kasali yung traffic, siksikan sa bus or jeep, at maalinsangan at di komportable na paraan ng transportasyon. Good thing, itinuloy ni Pres Duterte yung pag-improve ng mass transportation to alleviate the sufferrings of the common Filipino.
